Job Description:
Position Summary:The Senior US Economist is responsible for
developing and conveying The Conference Board forecast for the US
economy. This will include forecasting, maintaining existing
models, building new models, creating timely insights on the
economy, and crafting the view of the US economic outlook for
delivery to members, the media, and the public. This role will also
be responsible for producing insights on the interaction between
economics, finance, risk, and business strategy.The candidate will
support the Chief Economist in providing briefings to key
stakeholders. The incumbent will also work collaboratively with
other teams-within US ESF center, ESF teams abroad, and partners in
other Centers spanning the globe-to provide intelligence on the US
economy.Accountabilities:
- Develop and maintain The Conference Board forecast of the US
economy.
- Production of written insights, as well as being featured in
webcasts, podcasts, and briefings to Members on the following
topics: US growth, consumption, investment, housing, trade,
inflation, Fed policy; and themes relating to finance and risk,
including monetary policy, fiscal policy, crypto, money, banking,
and financial stability.
- Partner with labor market institute to generate US labor market
forecasts including unemployment rates, payrolls, wages.
- Establish a view on US monetary policy and collaborate with CED
on US fiscal policy.
- Disseminate the US forecast to external surveys (Blue Chip,
Bloomberg, etc.).
- Present US themes on the monthly Economy Watch webcast series
and maintain monthly Economy Watch - US view deck
- Engage Members in Experts Live briefings and on the ESF
community.
- Generate US chart deck and topical decks on relevant
themes.
- Write Rapid Responses to high frequency data (ex. GDP, CPI,
Retail Sales, FOMC, PCE, etc.).
- Write thematic insights on the US economy, and contribute to
and write op-eds.
- Conduct US economic scenario modeling using Oxford Economic
platform.
- Develop content and indicators for surveys focused upon
finance, risk, and strategy.
- Produce US section of the Annual Global Economic Outlook and
advise on global report.
- Contribute to Gray Swans tools.
- Facilitate / lead insights projects on other ad hoc topics
pertaining to the US, including trade.
- Execute projects related to geopolitics and fiscal policy
requiring data analysis.
- Maintain high quality of insights design, implementation, and
final output.
- Engage in NABE to develop professional network and remain
abreast of emerging themes.Qualifications:
- A Master's degree or PhD in Economics or related field.
- 5-10 years of work experience in a data-intensive macroeconomic
research environment.
- Deep knowledge of the US economy and a strong grasp of economic
theory.
- Solid credentials in data analytics and analysis.
- Excellent writing skills.
- Superb communications skills.
- Significant experience with analytical, statistical, and
visualization packages (e.g., Excel, PowerPoint, E-views,
Tableau).
- Programming/coding experience (e.g., STATA, SAS, R, Python,
Matlab).
- Knowledge of Haver DLX, CEIC, and Bloomberg data platforms
desired.
- Experience presenting to and interacting with senior executives
in a business setting.
- Media experience strongly preferred.
- Experience working in a multidisciplinary, business-oriented
team environment.
- Works well under pressure and meets strict deadlines.
- Highly organized, with strong attention to detail.
- Experience with project management.
- Experience supervising and/or mentoring junior staff is
desirable.
